So antivirus if you are on windows you need it. I mean if you don’t have one now! Then leave this Post grab you coat wallet dash out and get one. Now if you are on a Mac don’t be as cynical and say “I have a Mac they don’t get viruses”. They do get viruses there isn’t many that attack them but they are growing.

So  the question is what antivirus to get . Now we all have our preferences on this some will say avast on AVG 2 completely free versions. Now what I say to free virus protections is that you can never get something for nothing.  I find when I ran AVG on my Parents computer it slowed down the pc. Now I am not going to comment on every antivirus software out there because It will be very long post and you will get very board of it. I am going to say about to I have used Norton which I have used for the past 4 years and ESET NOD32 Which I have just been using. Oh and before I start I have to get this off My virtual Chest. I HATE MACAFFE ! So now I have got that off my chest on with this post.

So as I said.. I mean typed earlier. I have used Norton for the past 4 years. The resent I went with Norton humm… well I would have to say that I started life with Norton because the first antivirus I saw was virus and then when I got my computer Norton was preinstalled. So I kept on using it. Another reason Was when I came to have to renew to licence I was in January so there was always around £30 or less for it and £30 for a year was good value seeing that I download a lot of software.  I have been using the 2009 version because to my mind it was the best. I had no popup it wasn’t very annoying.  So why did I change it. Well one I wanted to try another antivirus I am a geek this one Is less well known in the uk. You will never find nit in PCworld. I heard about it form a netcast called Twit. I trust them therefore I will trust this piece of software. Now I had some misgivings about this antivirus some of it was that I had trusted Norton. So I was sceptical that this software was as good as Norton secondary the size is only about a tenth of Norton. Now cost. Well for a single user (It says user I prefer to say install) so for one time install it is £30 but for this you dont get a isk. You can by it for an extra £7. So, on the hole it is slightly cheaper then Norton. Also I find that  it does not slow down your computer as much, My boot time is reduces by about  20 seconds,  I am also using it on my netbook, without going into  the benefits and disadvantage of netbooks but I find that it does  speed it up.

So features that it offers well like most antiviruses it will do all the normal things. Virus checking  web protection etc. But there are two main points of why I like ESET. One is that along with the virus database it uses advance algorithms to look for virus like behaviour. This means that it can stop viruses that the other programs would not stop. It has not missed a single virus in the last 10 year (from virus bulletin) the other good reason is that the program is very light compared with Norton. It does not slow the computer down. Which is good when I have is on a netbook that is underpowered to save battery life and not much ram.

Now there are some points that I don’t like or prefer Norton too. One is and it depends on your view is that it warns me if the os is not up to date being a geek I do install the updates regularly but I do it around a week after it comes out as I will have to restart the computer which takes a while and I will do it in a convent time. The feature is nice for normal users. The big problem I have with it is that it has far too many popups. Sure I can turn them off but Norton only told me whether it has found a virus or blocked an attack and sometimes if is about to run a quick scan this is usually once a month. I get about 1 a day which can get annoying but gladly it does not interrupt what I am doing.

So in conclusion it has a nice clear ui which you can add more features in advanced mod. There are far too many notifications for my liking but I can turn them off. But What I do like is the way it scans for viruses looking for virus like behaviour not just the virus itself.  So would I recommend this antivirus I would say that I would. For the reasons above and that they have some lovely staff that answer any of my questions

So that’s the end of another post you can follow me on twitter to catch more of my post.
